Giving parents more power in Rochester City Schools

A local parents group is lobbying for a state law that would give Rochester, NY parents an unprecedented amount of power when it comes to the education of their children.
The so-called “parent trigger” bill would give parents the ability to force dramatic changes on a given school.
If parents collect enough signatures, they could fire a principal, cut staff, close schools or turn them into charter schools.
A parents rights group in Rochester says parents don't have a voice in NY's 3rd largest school district.
Opponents of the bill argue parents are ill-equipped to take over a school, adding elected school boards are a better way through which parents can address their concerns.
