Gillibrand Announces Plan to Help NY Children With Asthma

(Washington, D.C.) -- U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand wants to improve the lives of New York children suffering from asthma. The junior senator from New York says more than 370-thousand children in the Empire State suffer from asthma and thousands are hospitalized each year for asthma attacks.
Gillibrand says too many children don't have the resources to get the medical help they need to prevent such attacks. Her plan to change that involves making inhalers available to every child in need. The Senator has put together a 100-million-dollar funding package that would allow schools in low income areas in New York to purchase inhalers and spacers.
Her plan also features funding for asthma management plans for schools throughout the Empire State, as well as funding for instruction for asthma educators who work with parents and students on how to live with asthma safely. She also wants to invest in research and data collection regarding asthma sufferers, in the hopes such data will unlock new treatments.
