Ford Vehicles May Have Toyota Like Floormat Issues
06.02.10 |
Some Ford vehicles may have floormat issues similar to those involved in a massive Toyota recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received three complaints about accelerator pedals being trapped by unsecured "all-weather" floormats in the current model year Ford Fusion. The agency says it's received no complaints about crashes involving those vehicles. A preliminary investigation has been launched to look at the problem that could involve nearly 250-thousand vehicles.
The Fusion issue involves owners who have installed aftermarket floormats on top of the already carpeted floormat on the driver's side. A Ford spokesman points out instructions printed directly on the automaker's mats warn against placing them on top of existing carpet, as does the packaging. The NHTSA also warns motorists not to place unsecured floormats on top of an existing carpet.
