01.13.10 |
Most of the top sports franchises are still riding high despite the economic downturn. That's the bottom line according to Forbes.com which is out with its annual list of the most valuable teams in sports. The magazine said the roster of clubs worth more than a billion dollars has remained stable since last January. Topping the list for the second straight year is Britain's soccer powerhouse Manchester United, worth an estimated one-point-eight billion dollars. Four other European soccer franchises also made the list. The New York Yankees and six NFL clubs led by the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins were among the top ten U.S. sports franchises. According to "Forbes," the Yankees were the only baseball team to reside in the billionaire's club. The magazine noted the recession has had more of an impact on the NBA than it has on the value of NHL teams, which remained fairly stable.
