The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the probe involves Ford Escapes and Mazda Tributes from model years 2001 to 2004.  The NHTSA has received 99 reports about the vehicles, including a complaint involving a teenager killed earlier this year in a 2002 Escape SUV. An official with the Center for Automotive Safety has called on Ford to recall all Escapes from model years 2002 to 2004 for a so-called "lethal cruise control cable defect."
