Fears increase for family farms in NY after bill passes

The Democrat-led Senate and Assembly passed a plan to give farmworkers the right to organize, collect overtime and get a day off.

Jose Chapa with the Justice for Farmworker Coalition notes, "it includes a day of rest; it includes sanitary conditions to improve in farmworker housing."

But, assemblyman Chris Tague says this legislation is not necessary because many in the ag community look after their farm hands.

State senator Tom O'Mara says this measure will drive family farms out of business and have other profound repercussions throughout local farm economies.
