PennDOT is urging residents to start gathering required I.D. documents now, or to check with the state in a few months to see if they're already on file. Included in the list are: a certified birth certificate, social security card, proof of any legal name changes, and two items showing your current address.

The state expects to roll out the compliant licenses starting in the spring of 2019.

Current driver's licenses and ID cards can be used to enter federal facilities and board domestic flights through September of 2020.
