Environmental Accident In Pennsylvania

A North-Central Pennsylvania official says a broken main sent nearly 2 million gallons of raw sewage into a major tributary of the Susquehanna River late last month. The executive director of the Lycoming County Water and Sewer Authority said the leak happened between January 20th and January 26th in a main from Loyalsock Township to a treatment plant east of Montoursville. The official told the Harrisburg Patriot-News that a contractor was removing peirs from a railroad bridge when a 10-inch main encased in concrete broke and spilled into Loyalsock Creek. The State Department of Environmental Protection is still investigating the incident.
