Drug Company Seeking Plan B Approval

"Plan B" opponents haven't won their fight just yet. A top federal official says a drug company is welcome to re-apply for approval to market a morning-after pill to teen girls. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius made the announcement after her agency overruled an FDA recommendation that "Plan B" could be sold over the counter to girls under the age of 17. Sebelius said Teva Pharmaceutical Industries can submit a new application for the expanded sales after more testing. The Health and Human Services move was the first time that the agency trumped an FDA approval. The agency had concerns about whether the younger girls would understand information on the drug's label. The FDA cited "science-based" testing when it initially recommended opening up over the counter sales of "Plan B" to girls younger than 17.
