Cuomo Says It's Time For Serious Budget Talks

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says its time for real state budget discussions to begin. The new 2014-2015 fiscal year budget is due April first.

uomo says the main budget issue is whether lawmakers have the will to attack waste and duplication of local governments that drive up property taxes. The Assembly has rejected the Governor’s plan to make tax relief contingent upon adherence to the property tax cap law and streamlining services.  State Democrats instead have floated a “circuit breaker” proposal that ties tax cuts to household income. The State Senate's budget includes more than half a billion dollars for universal Pre-K in New York City.  Lawmakers have also rejected, it would appear, the governor's "Dream Act" proposal that would pay for the college of students in this country, illegally.
