Of all the things that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo mentioned in his state of the state Wednesday, there was one tiny item he left out: high volume hydrofracking. In his entire 80 minute address, not once did he mention the controversial gas drilling technique that's been under review for nearly five years, even though nearly a thousand fracking protestors lined the outside of the Empire State Plaza convention center. Cuomo said Thursday "do not read into it." He said the state is doing a health review, and as we wait, while nothing has changed. Therefor, there was no need to make mention of it in the State of the State address. He said it does not mean gas drilling will be approved and it does not mean gas drilling will stay banned, it simply means we're waiting. Meanwhile, a public comment period on the DEC's latest proposals expires at 5 p.m. today.
