College-run high schools in Rochester ?

A plan proposed by the superintendent of the Rochester New York School District would cede control of struggling city schools to area colleges. It’s never been done before in NY ....a college take-over of public high schools.  At a meeting with the school board last night, the Superintendent called the plan the "last chance to improve the district."  The proposal, which needs state approval, would allow the district to enter into contracts with colleges and universities....essentially giving them the role of superintendent and asking them to oversee everything from the budget to day-to-day operations. Under the plan, as many schools as possible would be managed by colleges and universities in Monroe County by 2015.
