(New York, NY)  --  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the United States will contribute 50-million dollars to help provide clean burning cooking stoves in developing nations.  Clinton said the stoves would help reduce deaths from smoke inhalation and fight climate change.  The secretary may have anticipated some raised eyebrows when she admitted people have cooked over open fires and dirty stoves for all of human history.  But, she said, "the simple fact is they are slowly killing millions of people and polluting the environment."  Clinton claims by upgrading stoves, millions of lives can be saved and improved.

Target areas for the stoves that cost as little as ten-dollars each, are India, south Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.  It's hoped other nations and corporations will contribute money with the target of at last 250-million dollars to provide cleaner, less-polluting stoves and fuels to 500-million households worldwide within ten years.
