The chicken sandwich became a political statement for a day as hundreds of thousands of traditional marriage fans and critics took a stance at thousands of chick fil a restaurants across the country Wednesday. 700-Thousand signed a pledge of support for Chick-Fil-A on Facebook. Some people waited an hour for lunch, and at several sites, police had to be called in to maintain order. The debate started after Chick-Fil-A's C.E.O. took a hardline stance in favor of traditional marriage, and a ward in the City of Chicago banned him from building a new restaurant there.

There were entire crowds, though, that weren't there for the gay rights debate, but free speech. There were even some gay rights supporters supporting Chick-Fil-A.  Some said "you can't govern free speech. It's a free country. I don't think it's right that anybody should take political action against someone voicing their opinon. Anyone can open a business in this country. This is not just about LGBT rights."

New York University may be the next to toss Chick-Fil-A off their grounds. More then 16-thousand people have signed a petition to remove the eatery from its campus for its stance on gay marraige. Gay rights groups are planning a mass protest Friday.
