CDC: 20-Percent Without Insurance During Past Year

Almost one in five Americans didn't have health insurance at some time during the period since January of 2008. The statistic comes from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which puts the number at almost 60-million people across the nation. The CDC found two-thirds of those who were not covered at some time during the period were unemployed working age adults. Hispanics, men and young adults were most likely to be without health insurance coverage. The study reveals the number of children participating in government health insurance plans rose to over 37-percent in the first half of 2009, compared to just over 34-percent in 2008. Just over eight-percent of youngsters were without health insurance coverage during the period.
