Bill In NY Would Keep Abortion Legal; Even If Federal Law Changes

There's a bill working its way through the Senate and Assembly in New York State that would make sure abortion remained legal, even if federal law was made more restrictive. The resolution passed the Democratic controlled Assembly on Tuesday, after foundering in the Senate last week. Senate Republicans argued it would decriminalize abortion, and take away protections that many women should have. New York legalized abortion in 1970, three years before Roe Versus Wade. The Reproductive Health Act was first introduced in 2007 by former Governor Eliot Spitzer, and Governor Cuomo said earlier this month he'd fight to have it passed during his term.
