The Big Bang theory is front and center today, after researchers at the CERN lab in Geneva solved one of the biggest riddles in physics. They successfully, for 2 tenths of a second, trapped anti-matter. That is the opposite of matter, and it's what scientists believe collided with matter to cause the big bang that they say created the universe. They've never been able to see antimatter up close, because it disintegrates when it gets close to matter. Now they can not only trap it-- but hold it long enough to look at it with lasers. If the atoms are not identical to hydrogen, the Standard Model of Particle Physics will be disproven, and everything will need to be reexamined, and textbooks will need to be rewritten. The Big Bang theory could be completely out the window.
