A new AIDS education program has been launched by Wycliffe Bible Translators in Africa.  Mission Network News reports the program is one of the first AIDS programs to reach people in their native languages.

Wycliffe's Kathie Watters said as believers understand how the disease is spread, they can do a better job of reaching others for Christ. Watters compared outreach to AIDS victims to Jesus reaching out with compassion to lepers in the Bible.

She said it's important for people to take food and other help to AIDS victims, telling themselves, quote, "I'm not going to judge them. I'm going to go there, offer to pray with them and share the Gospel with them."

While the program has the potential to reach many nonbelievers, it can also affect Christians in relevant ways. After experiencing the training, many go out to get tested for AIDS, and others surrender to God and commit to sexual purity.
