Republican gubernatorial hopeful Rob Astorino will tap Chemung County Sheriff Christopher Moss as his running mate Tuesday, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the pick.

The state Republican Party will formally nominate Moss for lieutenant governor at its convention Thursday at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, Westchester County, sources said.
Moss, 46, is the current president of the New York State Sheriff's Association. He's a vocal critic of the SAFE Act, a series of new gun-control laws passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo last year. Cuomo, a Democrat, will be seeking a second term in November.

Astorino, the Westchester County executive, will announce his running mate at 5 p.m. on his website, according to his campaign.
