Afghan Protesters: Dead Insurgents Were Civilians
08.18.10 |
(Jalalabad) -- Hundreds of people rallied in eastern Afghanistan today, protesting the deaths of two men who were branded as insurgents and killed by coalition forces. Protesters claimed the men killed were civilians. The mostly male protesters blocked a main highway out of the city of Jalalabad into neighboring Pakistan for several hours. They shouted anti-American slogans and carried the bodies of the two dead men, who were reportedly a father and son. The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said the dead men had been involved in roadside bomb attacks, the most common and effective weapon used by insurgents against foreign forces in Afghanistan.
