Accused cop killer Justin Walters was back in court last night

In northern New York, Justin Walters was formally charged with 1st degree murder.

Walters, a decorated Fort Drum soldier is accused in the fatal shootings of his wife Nicole and State Trooper Joel Davis following a domestic violence altercation.

State police superintendent George Beach says, "this is a terrible loss to this community."

The fallen police officer was a husband and father who was actively involved in youth sports in the community he called home.

Residents in the tiny town of Theresa are still in shock over the shooting.

Trooper Davis was wearing a bullet proof vest, but was shot in the side which was not covered. He's the fourth New York state trooper to die in the line of duty this year.
