Unanswered Prayers? Wait.

Many of us have cried out to God in prayer and then wondered, when? In Psalm 27:14, the Lord commands "Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord!"

But we want our prayers answered now! In our time, not His. Well, here's my story.

If you don't know, Family Life hired me out of Los Angeles. I was working my dream job as a co-host on a syndicated afternoon radio show. And I was miserable. Through a series of God ordained "circumstances", I moved cross country to little Bath, NY and joined the ministry.

Now in L.A., the money is huge. In ministry? Not so much. But my wife and I were sure that the Lord wanted us here, so we prayed. We prayed for a financial blessing to help us with the debt that we were suddenly drowning in. But as the months grew, so did our debt. Suddenly the bill collectors were calling, our credit was failing, and we went from floating in debt to drowning.

But here's the blessing; the more we fell behind financially, God kept our home peaceful. My wife and I didn't turn on each other, we didn't yell, we didn't blame. There were tears, but whenever I was down, she was my encourager, and if I noticed she was down I knew I had to "suck it up" and assure her that God would pull us through.

But He didn't bless us financially, well... He did make a home available to buy even with our failing credit. But He didn't provide the 2nd car we desperately needed. Well... He did make sure our new home was within walking distance of my daughter's school. But what about my wife? Well... her new job just happened to be within one block of our new home too. Huh? And the whole time our home was filled with smiles and love. Sure, we had disagreements, but no loud arguments. No accusations. Peaceful 98% of the time. That's the presence of God!

I wanted to share this now because - LORD willing - we can see an end of our years of financial struggles. Many of those same bills will be paid off this year. Thank you Lord! And all along the way we held tight to the hands of Jesus and lived our marriage vows, "In good times and bad. For richer or poorer. In sickness and in health. Till death do we part."

Friend, please allow your home to be a safe place for your family. The world will beat up your spouse and your child(ren). So they have to have somewhere they can rest, relax, and find peace. With You. At Home.

If you have been crying out to the Lord in prayer, and you feel your prayers are unanswered, may this song from Lincoln Brewster bless you as you wait:

Deep within my heart, I know You've won
I know You've overcome
And even in the dark, when I'm undone
I still believe it

I live by faith, and not by sight
Sometimes miracles take time

While I wait, I will worship
Lord, I'll worship Your name
While I wait, I will trust You
Lord, I'll trust You all the same

When I fall apart, You are my strength
Help me not forget
Seeing every scar, You make me whole
You're my healer

I live by faith, and not by sight
Sometimes miracles take time

I live by faith, and not by sight
Sometimes miracles take time

While I wait, I will worship
Lord, I'll worship Your name
While I wait, I will trust You
Lord, I'll trust You all the same

You're faithful every day
Your promises remain
You're faithful every day
Your promises remain

You're faithful every day
Your promises remain
You're faithful every day
Your promises remain

Though I don't understand it
I will worship with my pain
You are God, You are worthy
You are with me all the way

So while I wait, I will worship
Lord, I'll worship Your name
Though I don't have all the answers
Still I trust You all the same.

Thank you brother, for sharing how God was faithful in your struggles! All of God's children are in the wilderness at tome point, where God clarifies our vision and meets us personally. The grace to walk thru a desert experience is God's provision, same as manna. My husband is a pastor without a church right now, and we are waiting. Money is tight, future unclear, so we are doing the next thing before us: caring for the people around us and my husband, despite having 3 degrees , is doing manual labor to help pay the bills. Our friends and family, who are praying for us and encouraging us in this time are also God's provision! Sometimes we can get so focused on how we think God should provide we don't look for and thank Him for the ways he is actually caring for us as He teaches us more about Himself in the desert place.

Thank you for sharing this. I really appreciate the fact that you shared that God did not answer your prayers the way you wanted him to, but he did answer them. So many times I hear or read how God answered prayer and it was what the people wanted. God does do that, but other times he doesn't. Nine years ago my father was battling cancer and we were praying for God to heal him. God did heal him, but God had to take him to heaven to do it. That was not what my family wanted. We wanted him here with us. I still struggle with the fact that God chooses to heal some and not others. I know his plan is best, but it is hard when we do not understand.

Praise God, Thanks for your testimonial; it is important that we remind eachother that the Lord works not in our wants, but more so in our needs. The Lord's Prayer says, give us our daily bread. Then the amazing thing is as we follow Him and seek His righteousness we find that He, in His time also provides for our wants, but He redefines them for us. Praise God: my we all "Be Still, and know He is God"

Thank you for sharing Sonny.....God is good all the time... it is just not always the way we would plan out our lives.....but God's ways are higher than our ways...God Bless you and Nicole and the way that you both live out your Christian lives.
