I Choose Love

  forgive and forget

This is from Dr. Gary Chapman's Devotional, "Love Is A Verb." I pray it blesses you as it does me.

My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows. No, I will not unleash my fierce anger. -Hosea 11:8-9

                                               I Choose Love

"I'm not sure I can do this," I said, turning to my husband beside me. We sat in our parked car, shrouded in darkness as the restaurant's lights illuminated a young woman and children sitting at a table, framed in the window before us. "How can I go in there and pretend everything's okay? What about loyalty to our son?"

Dave took my hand and squeezed it. "You once loved her and accepted her as your daughter. Do you hate her now that she divorced our son?"

Tears filled my eyes and I shook my head. Dave was right.  Harboring anger only prolonged the bitterness. It was time to stop picking at the scab and allow my heart to heal.

"Grandma! Grandpa!" the kids yelled as we entered the restaurant and approached their table.

Their mother, a hesitant smile on her face, stood as we drew near. "It's good to see you. Been a long time."

I smiled. "Thanks for letting us know you were in the area." I lifted my hand to touch her shoulder, but she wrapped me in a hug instead.

*Loving others sometimes requires a love far greater and purer than our own.*

"A LOVE GREATER AND PURER THAN OUR OWN_ DON'T I KNOW THAT THESE DAYS. MY SON TAKES EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO BREAK MY HEART. I JUST KEEP PRAYING AND REMINDING MYSELF TO OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD.
