Operation Christmas Child

11.12.09 | Darcie Schwarz

Family Life has joined with Samaritan’s Purse and hundreds of churches in NY and PA to collect toys and other small gifts for needy kids around the world. The program is called Operation Christmas Child—an international missions initiative started by Franklin Graham.

Now here’s the fun thing: everyone donating gifts packs them in shoe boxes and wraps the box like a present. Then kids from different countries - usually areas stricken by war, poverty, and famine - will get a present from you around Christmas time! Your gift will be the first gift many of these hurting children have ever received.

So think about getting involved with this worthy cause.  It means bringing joy and hope to children in very desperate situations.  We can’t think of a better way to give during the holidays.

The collection drive starts November 16 and ends November 23. Anyone interested in donating gift-filled shoe boxes, or similarly sized containers, may pack them with small toys, hard candy, school supplies, t-shirts, hats, toy jewelry, and other personal items.

Family Life is collecting gift-filled shoe boxes at the ministry and so are many, MANY churches. Our collection hours are Monday through Friday, from Noon to 5:00 pm. We’re also collecting packed shoe boxes that Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
