Elmira Signal Moving To 1025fm

02.15.11 | Darcie Schwarz

Do you live in Elmira, NY?  If so, you might have noticed that Family Life on 88.1FM is off the air. We're sorry!

The signal is moving to 102.5FM, and here's why.

88.1FM in Elmira is a "translator" which is a low-powered radio signal designed to cover a small area such as a town or city. If another broadcaster applies for a full-powered station on the same frequency as a Family Life translator, FCC law states that the broadcaster with the full-powered signal has authority to take it.

This is what happened in Elmira. In response to losing the frequency, Family Life has applied with the FCC to move to 102.5 FM, which will be transmitting in Elmira as soon as possible. The application process normally takes 90 days, sometimes less.

Here's additional information to note, especially if you're a Family Life listener living in the Southern Tier of NY. These signals are not off the air yet, but Family Life also will be moving this year in Corning(88.3FM); Olean (90.5FM); and Binghamton (98.7FM).

We project Corning's signal to move to 104.1FM sometime soon.

Binghamton's signal will move to 102.9FM in the next few months. We'll keep you posted here as well.

Lastly, Olean's signal will move to 101.1FM. This move will happen sometime this year.

Thank you for being patient with this process. None of these areas are losing Family Life. The signals are simply moving and might be off the air for a period of time as we apply for "new homes."
